At Prosperity Credit Union, we love our members almost as much as we love giving helpful advice. When it comes to credit cards, we've seen it all - from brilliant financial moves to head-scratching choices. To keep you in the "brilliant" category, here's our quick and witty list of credit card do's and don'ts.

DO:

  • Pay your bills on time – If you enjoy paying unnecessary fees, we're happy for you, but there are better hobbies out there.
  • Check your statements regularly – Because surprises should be reserved for birthday parties, not your monthly balance.
  • Use rewards wisely – Those points aren't Pokémon. You don't have to catch 'em all, but you should definitely use them.
  • Understand your interest rates – Remember, "interest" should be something you earn, not something you pay excessively.

DON'T:

  • Max out your credit card – Contrary to popular belief, a credit limit isn't a personal challenge.
  • Ignore suspicious charges – Unless you genuinely did buy a lifetime supply of cat sweaters from Uzbekistan. Then, congratulations!
  • Apply for too many cards at once – Credit cards aren't potato chips. You really can have too many.
  • Use your credit card as an emergency fund – That fancy espresso machine isn't technically an "emergency," no matter how tired you are.

Remember, credit cards can be great financial tools or financial troublemakers. Keep these tips handy, spend responsibly, and you'll remain on great terms with your credit - and your friendly neighborhood credit union!
